Dr. Peter Grossman is also recognized for his extraordinary work with burn victims around the globe. His most famed case is the story of Zubaida Hasan, a young girl who was burned in Afghanistan at the age of nine. Dr. Grossman and his wife Rebecca Grossman became the legal guardians for Zubaida. Dr. Grossman performed over thirteen reconstructive surgeries while she was living with them.

Zubaida became a part of the Grossman family and her story was featured on several television shows including the “Oprah Show” and CNN. The book, “Tiny Dancer” was published in September of 2004, telling the story of her triumph over her unfortunate circumstances. Her story has touched the heart of many around the world and has been referred to as a “miracle.”

Youssif

A second heart-warming story is that of Youssif, a young Iraqi boy who was set on fire while he was out playing in the streets. The Children’s Burn Foundation responded to the request for help and sponsored Youssif on his trip to the United States to receive burn care treatment from the Grossman Burn Centers. Dr. Grossman, again showing his humanitarian nature, accepted the challenging case and performed dozens of reconstructive surgeries on Youssif, restoring his smile and confidence. Youssif’s touching story reached the CNN news room and gained international attention.
